Sean Smith
Originally from Canada, Sean trained with Goh Ballet Academy, Ballet British Columbia’s Mentor Program and The Ailey School. He has performed with Bruce Wood Dance Project, Rhythmic Souls Tap Company, Dallas Theater Center in The Wiz (2011) and Hairspray (2018) and African American Repertory Theater for which he won the Irma P. Hall Black Theatre Award for Best Choreographer. As a professional artist he has performed in master works of international choreographers Alvin Ailey, Judith Jamison, Donald McKayle, Robert Battle and Matthew Rushing among others. Sean’s teaching experience includes the Lester Horton technique where he has taught for Ailey Athletic Boys (AAB), Dallas Black Dance Academy, and Southern Methodist University, including many regional dance institutions. Sean has choreographed two works for Dallas Black Dance Theatre: Monologues (2013) and Interpretations (2017) and one work for DBDT: Encore!, Dollhouse (2015). Sean performed as a principal artist with Dallas Black Dance Theatre from 2010 to 2024.
